doctor stuff

During the first few weeks of school, I became a member of the American Medical Students Association (AMSA) by joining the Ross University chapter here on campus. There are a lot of great reasons to be a part of this association, but I was mostly interested in volunteering for their health fair in Portsmouth and attending the various clinics they host. You can read more about our chapter here. After the first mini exam, an AMSA health fair was held in town for the local Dominicans. We provided free screenings including blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and pulmonary functioning to identify high risk individuals. We then had several doctors from our campus consult and treat these individuals. The community seems to really like having us there and we enjoy the chance to get our faces out of the books and do something that reminds us what we are working for. I had a great time (as you can see from the picture) even though I had to wake up ridiculously early. A couple days later, AMSA put on a suture clinic for the students and we all learned how to stitch up a grapefruit. I did OK, but lets just say I don't think Ill ever make it as a plastic surgeon (sorry aunt terry!) Even though I am having a hard time here with all the hours of studying and barely any time for play, I will try to keep doing the "doctor stuff" that reminds me of my goal. That should keep me sane enough for now.

Thanks for the heads-up. I will continue to look like a grapefruit in need of sutures.
