France in the Caribbean

Every semester, the restaurant Tomatoes charters a boat to go to Les Saintes in Guadeloupe for the day. The island is French, very small, and only about 20 miles from Dominica! I signed up to go this semester and I am so glad I did because it was wonderful. The boat was a beautiful catamaran sailboat. There were bagels and mimosas for the trip there and an open bar with fabulous hor devours for the trip back. It was heaven. I sat on the cargo net in the front and the water occasionally splashed up through the net to keep me cool. I didn't see any whales but it was really fun to see all the flying fish. When we got there, most people rushed to get gelato and real coffee. A lot of people rented scooters to get around for the day. That was the main mode of transportation on the island since it is so small. I wasn't allowed to get a scooter because my friends believed I would drive it off a cliff or something clumsy like that. I didn't really argue because it was probably true. It was so cute there. There was amazing food and shopping. Everyone speaks french there and they use the Euro. There was good wine, cheese, salami, baguettes, and meat for very cheap. Some people brought coolers with ice just so they could stock up and take it back with them. That is definitely what I am doing next time. All in all, I had a wonderful day and will be sure to do it again! (Click on the picture above to see more)

Hey, my friends said the same thing about the scooters! But then again, I had been drinking just a teensy bit of yummy wine! I'm glad you had fun. It's like the very best break from studying ever, huh?!
